U disk: speed

Rotationl Speed is the rotational speed of the motor spindle in the hard disk, which is the maximum number of revolutions that the hard disk can complete in one minute. The speed is one of the important parameters that indicate the grade of the hard disk. It is one of the key factors that determine the internal transfer rate of the hard disk. It directly affects the speed of the hard disk. The faster the hard disk rotates, the faster the hard disk seeks files and the faster the hard disk transfer speed. Hard disk speed is expressed in revolutions per minute. The unit is expressed as RPM. RPM is an acronym for Revolutions Perminute and is RPM. The larger the RPM value, the faster the internal transfer rate, the shorter the access time, and the better the overall performance of the hard disk.

The spindle motor of the hard disk drives the disk to rotate at a high speed and generates buoyancy so that the head floats above the disk. To bring the sector of the data to be accessed under the head, the faster the speed, the shorter the waiting time. Therefore, the rotation speed largely determines the speed of the hard disk.

The speed of ordinary home hard drives is generally 5400rpm, 7200rpm several, high-speed hard drive is now the desktop user's first choice; and for notebook users is the main 4200rpm, 5400rpm, although the company has released a 7200rpm notebook hard drive, but in The market is still relatively rare; server users have the highest requirements for hard disk performance, and the SCSI hard disk speeds used in servers are generally 10,000 rpm, and even 15,000 rpm, the performance of which exceeds that of home appliances.

The higher speed can shorten the average seek time and the actual read/write time of the hard disk, but with the continuous increase of the hard disk speed, it also brings about negative effects such as higher temperature, increased wear of the motor spindle, and increased working noise. The notebook hard disk speed is lower than the desktop hard disk, to some extent is affected by this factor. The internal space of the notebook is small, and the size of the notebook hard disk (2.5 inch) is also designed to be smaller than the desktop hard disk (3.5 inch). The temperature caused by the increase in the rotational speed raises higher requirements for the thermal performance of the notebook itself; the noise becomes louder. , And must take the necessary noise reduction measures, which all put forward more requirements for laptop hard drive manufacturing technology. At the same time, the increase of the rotational speed, while the other remains unchanged, means that the power consumption of the motor will increase, the more electricity will be consumed per unit of time, and the working time of the battery will be shortened, thus the portability of the notebook will be affected. So notebook hard drives generally use a relatively low speed 4200rpm hard drive.

The rotational speed is changed with the increase of the hard disk motor. Fluid dynamic bearing motors have now completely replaced the traditional ball bearing motors. The fluid bearing motor is usually used in the precision machinery industry. It uses a mucous membrane oil bearing to replace the balls with an oil film. In this way, the direct friction of the metal surface can be avoided, and the noise and temperature can be minimized. At the same time, the oil film can effectively absorb the vibration and improve the anti-vibration capability; it can also reduce the wear and increase the service life.
