GT Solar has invested $27 million to build this high-volume plant to provide sapphire materials for the fast-growing LED market and other industrial materials industries.
It is understood that GT Solar acquired the sapphire producer Crystal Systems in July 2010. The expanded plant covers an area of ​​20,000 square feet and the expansion began in October last year and will be fully operational in the coming months. The plant uses the latest production control technology to create an efficient production environment, producing high-yield sapphire crystal corundum of uniform size and quality. Sapphire crystal corundum can be made into crystal nuclei of 2, 4, 6, 8 inches and above. After downstream processing to make high quality wafers or other materials, wafers can be used in the LED market, while other materials (such as large diameter A-axis and C-axis window) can be applied to other industrial markets. For the company's crystal growth professionals, the plant is also a research and development center that advances process technology and validates the knowledge and technology involved in the practical process, creating more value for the growing ASF TM equipment customers.
