Small-scale integration of power, Musk has to innovate in the energy industry

To say that innovation in the set of roads, I am afraid no one is higher than Elon Musk's level, through the integration of SolarCity and Tesla's resources, he is step by step to innovate the traditional energy industry, in the future contracted energy manufacturing, storage Make changes in a series of links such as consumption. On Wednesday, at Tesla's product launch, Musk may have thrown out a new perception of the energy industry.

On the 22nd of this month, the Silicon Valley Iron Man wrote on his Twitter: “Prepare the 28th to launch a series of products in the San Francisco Bay Area, including solar roofs, Powerwall 2.0 storage batteries and Tesla chargers. ”

Twitter is now the secret weapon of Musk. He will answer questions from fans and correct media misconceptions. Sometimes he is still warming his post. However, the above tweet is more special than all previous gags, because it is too important.

Previously, the concept of solar roof has attracted the attention of most people who eat melons, but from a professional point of view, it is not only this product that really makes people goose bumps, but Tesla's solar roof and storage. Vertical integration of battery and charger. .

Musk directly owns energy production, storage, and consumption. This package will greatly increase the efficiency of the energy industry and generate many unexpected new results.

At the moment, most Tesla users will spend $500 on their own Wall Connector when they buy a car, but now they have a one-step option - integrating the product directly into a Powerwall 2.0 battery.

Previously, Wall Connector had no connection with energy storage batteries. They are independent products. The former is responsible for charging vehicles while the latter is responsible for storing electricity for emergency use. However, Musk's integration of the two products will generate more. The "play".

Today, Tesla's Wall Connector converts AC power in the home into DC power and fills the car. This method looks flawless, but it will bring two problems. One is to limit the charger's charging rate (20kW), and the other is that there will be conversion loss during the power conversion process.   And if the two are integrated, the Tesla electric vehicle can directly use the energy in the energy storage battery, which will greatly reduce energy loss (by 10%-20%).

In terms of charging rate, the first-generation energy storage battery is not dominant (7kW), but its performance will be greatly improved after using the new 2170 batteries. At the same time, if you join SolarCity's solar roof, the system will look even more perfect.

The solar roof will continuously input the manufactured electric energy into the energy storage battery, and then the user can connect the energy storage battery to charge the vehicle. If the solar roof's power generation capacity is strong enough, this combination will greatly increase the charging rate. In addition, it is rumored that Tesla may add the inverter to the Powerwall 2.0 system and refer its charge rate to the current Wall Connector level.

In the future, as the technology advances, Tesla can double the charging speed through the system. Right now, an electric vehicle can get up to 50 miles (about 80 kilometers) of battery life in one hour of charging. If the user can use the energy management system being developed in the future, the electric vehicle can be extended into an energy storage battery to form a complete closed-loop system.

Let us imagine a scenario like this: Three days ago, solar roofs will start full power generation, and this electricity will flow into storage batteries. Afterwards, as long as the Tesla electric car is connected, the charger will automatically recognize the vehicle's power and make a decision on whether or not to charge it. The user does not have to pay for a dime of electricity. At the same time, this system can also be used in reverse. As an extension of the energy storage battery, if the efficiency of the solar roof is reduced in the event of bad weather, the electric vehicle can also charge its own energy to the energy storage battery to meet the household electricity needs.

Although these products can be purchased separately, it will be the first time that they will be integrated together. This seamless experience will become a force multiplier and push Tesla to become the new game rule maker.
