Horror Manga Master Ito Erji Classic Aesthetics AR Experience Exhibition opens in Beijing

From September 24th to December 17th, 2017, the "Ito Junji Classic Aesthetics AR Experience Exhibition," sponsored by ArtPie, took place in Hall 2 of the Today Art Museum in Beijing. This immersive event combined the legendary horror art of Japanese manga master Ito Junji with cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) technology, offering visitors a unique and spine-chilling experience that brought his dark, surreal worlds to life. Ito Junji is one of Japan's most celebrated horror manga artists, known for his deeply unsettling and psychologically intense storytelling. His iconic works, such as *Uzumaki* (*Vortex*) and *Gyo* (*Fujiang*), have been adapted into films, animations, and even stage plays. What sets Ito apart is his ability to craft terrifying yet eerily realistic scenarios that delve into the darkest corners of human psychology, leaving readers both horrified and fascinated. The AR experience at this exhibition was a groundbreaking fusion of art and technology. The tour originally launched in Taipei in 2015 and quickly gained massive popularity, drawing over 20,000 visitors on its first day. It then traveled to Hong Kong, Shanghai, and finally made its way to Beijing, where it continued to captivate audiences with its innovative approach. At the Beijing exhibition, attendees were treated to a range of interactive experiences. One highlight was a floating, human-headed balloon equipped with AR photography technology, allowing visitors to take unique, personalized photos with their own "ghostly" images. Additionally, authorized characters from Ito’s famous series, such as *Uzumaki*’s protagonist and *Gyo*’s main character, appeared in the exhibition space, giving fans the chance to pose for pictures with these iconic figures. To achieve the most realistic visual effects, the animation team spent nearly six months working with film-grade specifications, ensuring every detail was perfect. This effort not only broke traditional exhibition patterns but also delivered an unforgettable sensory experience—both visually and audibly. Even if you couldn’t make it to Beijing, there was still hope. The "Ito Junji Classic Aesthetics AR Experience Exhibition" was set to continue its journey, with upcoming stops in Chengdu and Chongqing later that year. Fans across China had another chance to step into the eerie world of Ito Junji and experience the power of horror through the lens of modern technology.
