Since last year, panel prices have entered a rapid upward trend, directly causing a significant increase in retail TV prices, with the most notable rise seen in smaller-sized TVs. This price surge has put immense pressure on many TV manufacturers, especially those in the internet TV sector, who were forced to adjust their marketing strategies due to prolonged fluctuations in LCD panel prices.
However, according to the latest panel market report from a research institution, after nearly a year of rising costs, TV panel prices began to ease in June. Particularly in August and September, large-screen LCD panels saw a sharper drop in prices, with all sizes experiencing a decline. Mid-sized TVs, such as 65-inch, 55-inch, and 40-43-inch models, are expected to see even deeper price cuts.
The latest data shows that panel prices in October remain lower than before, signaling a shift in the market. On the 32-inch scale, supply and demand are balanced, keeping prices slightly stable. In the 39.5- to 43-inch range, some 40-inch panels were re-entered into the market, causing the average price in September to drop by over $5, and it's expected to fall another $5 in October. The 43-inch segment will continue to see increased supply, maintaining a steady rate of decline.
For the 49- to 50-inch range, 49-inch supply remains stable, but prices keep dropping by $5. Meanwhile, 50-inch supply is increasing, leading to higher manufacturer inventories. Prices are expected to fall by $7 in October, gradually narrowing the gap with 49-inch models or even matching them in price.
On the 55-inch side, demand has clearly improved. Prices dropped by $5 in September, and a more moderate decline of $5 is expected in October. For larger sizes, however, terminal sales remain sluggish, and manufacturers still face inventory pressure. It's anticipated that prices will continue to fall by more than $10 in October.
Overall, the declining panel prices suggest a period of relief for TV products. While the current market trend is stabilizing, a small price cut is likely in the near future, with the biggest reductions possibly concentrated during the Double 11 shopping festival. Therefore, if you're planning to buy a large TV, it might be wise to wait a bit and consider purchasing during the Double 11 or New Year’s Day promotions, when the best deals usually appear.
