Click here to learn more. --- **Foreword** At first, I didn’t want to buy a Mi Box because when I was working on telecom broadband, I got a Huawei TV box to watch IPTV. But during my renovation, I only reserved a network cable (I cut corners on everything). Then the problem came up. There were two solutions: 1. Use VLAN switches to enable multi-channel multiplexing for both IPTV and the internet. However, this option is too expensive. The cheapest switch costs around 200 softcoins. If there's no router with VLAN support (which is even pricier), you'd need at least two of them, totaling around 400 softcoins. 2. Buy a network box and install live broadcast software to watch TV. This is low-cost, but the live stream quality isn't as good as IPTV. Considering the principle of maximizing budget use, I still thought about getting a network box. But there are so many options out there, and many looked appealing without doing proper research. I tried a Haidi H7 for a while, but it wasn’t cheap—costing almost as much as a dual-VLAN switch. Initially, we didn’t have a TV, so after the Double 11 sale, I connected the TV and the box. I wanted a 49-inch 9000e (but it had issues). Later, I decided to go for a 7500e. Just before placing the order, I saw an LG 49-inch TV for 2899, which included a 200-80 coupon, bringing the price down to 2819. After some calculation, it came to around 2760, which felt like a good deal. Plus, the seller sent a Mi Box along with the TV, solving both the TV and box issue. I turned it on right away at 11:00 PM. ![Image of TV](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/f7/28/30/b816748a95f564ccd421ac775a.jpg) --- **Double 11 Delivery Experience** The delivery arrived the same day, and I must say that Suning Logistics is really efficient. Even though it was delivered to a third-tier city, it arrived by 7:00 PM. Installation was easy, and I did it myself in under ten minutes. No wall mounting needed. I gave it a quick test run—WebOS is pretty hard to navigate, which made me reconsider buying another box. Still, I tested IPTV, and the delay and clarity were good. I then contacted customer service and waited for the box to arrive. --- **Receipt** At the end of December, I received a postal message, but there was no package inside. Was it a Mi Box? When I opened it, it turned out to be the Mi Box 3C. It was labeled clearly, and since it was shipped, it should work just fine with the TV. Let’s look at the specs: ![Image of Mi Box 3C](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/cf/59/17/e6f9ed9cfe9cb50bf57882c413.jpg) It has most of the features—support for 4K, USB ports, etc. The difference is that its hardware isn’t very powerful. The remote uses infrared instead of Bluetooth, meaning you have to point it directly at the box. Probably a cost-saving measure. --- **Unboxing the Mi Box 3C** This was my first time unboxing the Mi Box 3C, which isn’t new. There are plenty of online reviews, but I’ll share my own experience. The front is simple with just the “Mi” logo. ![Image of Mi Box Front](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/19/77/28/9d8d3d59d42626cf6f08154d3a.jpg) On the back, there are various parameters printed, including the production date: May 17, 2017. That’s over half a year ago. Why is it still being sold? ![Image of Back of Box](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/9d/81/eb/c761ec3fc1246d80189f9310d1.jpg) Inside the box, there's a sponge pad to protect against damage during transport. ![Image of Sponge Pad](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/fb/9b/9d/60a38683d7fc804045e74e146f.jpg) The front face and remote control show the infrared receiver, which needs to be aligned for the remote to work. ![Image of Remote](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/69/0f/f7/101439177e509b460432533143.jpg) Power adapter: ![Image of Power Adapter](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/df/d0/d9/b50ffb8f0c4fbee4d08ef91240.jpg) The family portrait comes with an HDMI cable, which is thinner than the one I bought, but it works fine. ![Image of HDMI Cable](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/82/94/d5/d739a499f7ea33f4afcaa33814.jpg) --- **System Experience** The system version is 1.5.1. One thing to note: the Mi Box 3C doesn’t have an RJ45 port. If you want a wired connection, you’ll need a USB-to-RJ45 adapter. After connecting, it automatically updates to 1.5.25. But the ads are overwhelming—endless startup ads, application ads, and even "ad walls" as users call it. Boot card, app card, channel change card, exit card… it's really annoying. ![Image of System Ads](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/b0/1f/cf/cff5f5b750ff4e17f7fdeae58d.jpg) The interface is cluttered, and most of the memory is taken up by useless content. I couldn’t tolerate it anymore, so I decided to do something about it. --- **Downgrade & Minimal Reform** **1. Preparation:** To proceed, I had to prepare a few things: - A FAT32-formatted USB drive to install the system. - I chose a relatively stable version, 1.3.106, as the target system. - Download the update file from [here](https://example.com) (Password: vmhq). **2. Formal Process:** There are many methods online for downgrading, but after testing, I found that some steps differ from what I read. Be careful. **Step 1: Enable Developer Mode** Go to Settings > About > Product Model, press the OK key on the remote repeatedly until the developer mode is enabled. **Step 2: Extract the Update File** Decompress the downloaded MDZ-16-AA+ (Stock + 1.3.106) to update.zip and xiaomi_update. Copy both files to the root of the USB drive. **Step 3: Connect the Mi Box to the TV and Insert the USB Drive** Press and hold the Home and Menu buttons on the remote. Plug in the power, and it will enter the update screen directly without going through recovery. ![Image of Update Screen](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/40/5f/8f/fa75f2a0b3b86683e3d785b77d.jpg) After updating, the system is now 1.3.106. Make sure to disable Smart Updates and check the system information. ![Image of Updated System](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/59/7e/19/46833ae8779ff28ce3eddd093c.jpg) **Step 4: Re-enable Developer Mode and ADB Debugging** Repeat the process to enable developer mode again, then go to Settings > Security > ADB Debugging and allow it. The box will restart. **Step 5: Simplify the System** Download a third-party driver to recognize ADB debugging. Install .NET 4.0 and "Debloater" on your computer. Open "Debloater," select "OK" and "Read Device." Once recognized, you can start removing unnecessary apps. ![Image of Debloater Interface](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/88/72/01/d27131937024c078176375a784.jpg) After selecting the apps to remove, click "Apply." The streamlined list includes apps that can be removed safely. Some may not be listed, so be cautious. ![Image of Streamlined List](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/c6/b1/57/57c81ce24c582c86875dd75b89.jpg) After rebooting, the system runs smoothly with fewer ads and lower resource usage. I still keep the system clean, avoiding any changes that could cause instability. --- **Final Thoughts** Although this method doesn’t involve rooting, the reason is that many online methods don’t work. I haven’t deeply studied rooting, but if someone else finds a successful way, we can discuss it together. Even though the Mi Box 3C isn’t the most powerful, it’s still functional and can be optimized easily. I hope this guide helps others who are hesitant about purchasing it. Thank you for reading!
