Currently, Apple’s market share isn’t particularly impressive. Despite some noteworthy software updates, such as the introduction of the "TV" app and Siri integration, Apple TV faces stiff competition. According to a comScore Connected Home survey released in April, Apple TV ranks fourth in the U.S., trailing behind Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Google Chromecast. This positioning can largely be attributed to two key factors. Firstly, Apple TV remains one of the priciest options on the market. Secondly, despite its premium pricing, Apple TV still lacks a critical feature found in many competing devices: support for 4K resolution. This oversight is somewhat baffling, especially considering that Apple TV still doesn't offer seamless access to Amazon Prime Video, which could be easily achieved through iOS integration.

Apple has also committed to bringing Amazon’s video library to its platform later this year. In 2017, Apple might focus on refining the user experience by making the interface more customizable. For instance, users could change the background based on the time of day or quickly access their favorite apps directly from the home screen.
However, one persistent limitation of Apple TV is its inability to run third-party apps. While other platforms like Android allow for additional customization—such as installing tools like "Sofa Butler" to stream live TV and on-demand movies—Apple TV remains locked down. This restriction continues to disappoint tech enthusiasts who prefer flexibility over ecosystem control.
Overall, while Apple TV remains a solid choice for those invested in the Apple ecosystem, its lack of affordability and certain advanced features may hinder broader adoption.
