Sony game business executive: PS5 has to wait another three years

According to "The Wall Street Journal" Beijing time on May 23 reported that for gamers, do not expect Sony will soon release the PS5.

Tsuneo "John" Kodera, Sony's PlayStation business executive, said on Wednesday that the company wants to spend another three years preparing for the launch of the next generation of game consoles.

This means that the PlayStation's upgrade cycle will slow down. Since the introduction of PS1 in 1994, the upgrade cycle of PlayStation game consoles has been between 6 and 7 years. PS4 was launched in 2013 and its sales volume has exceeded 79 million units.

"We will use the next three years to prepare for the next move. We must first skim down to jump higher in the future." Temple just said. He took over as PlayStation Business Director last October.

Just one day before, Sony's new CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, released the first three-year medium-term plan. Kenji Yoshida established a conservative profit forecast for the gaming division and expects its operating profit for the fiscal year ending in March 2021 to be slightly lower than the $1.6 billion it recorded in the fiscal year 2017.

Sony has been shifting the PlayStation business focus from hardware to web subscription services and has launched a $60 annual game pack with games and multiplayer capabilities.

As of March this year, Sony's member service PlayStation Plus has a total of 34 million users, which is in line with Yoshida Yoshida's goal. Kenji Yoshida hopes to increase revenue sources more stable than hardware and software sales.
