1. How to use a vernier caliper: The device consists of two main parts—the main scale and the vernier scale. When the movable jaw on the sliding frame aligns with the fixed jaw on the main body, the "0" mark on the vernier scale should match the "0" line on the main scale, indicating zero measurement. To take a reading, move the sliding frame until the jaws gently touch the object being measured. The distance between the jaws corresponds to the dimension you're measuring.

Precautions for using a vernier caliper:

  • A. Always clean the measuring surfaces before use to avoid dirt or debris affecting accuracy.
  • B. Check all moving parts for smooth operation. Ensure that the sliding frame and fine adjustment screw function properly.
  • C. Verify the zero setting by closing the jaws together. There should be no visible gap, and the main scale's "0" line should align with the vernier scale's "0" line.
  • D. Place the caliper flat during measurement, especially for larger models, to prevent bending or damage to the ruler.
  • E. For calipers with a depth gauge, always close the jaws after use and leave the depth rod slightly extended to prevent deformation or breakage.
  • F. After use, clean the caliper thoroughly and store it in its case to protect against rust and contamination.
  • G. If the caliper becomes inaccurate or shows any unusual behavior, stop using it immediately and report it. All previously measured items should be rechecked for reliability.
