In the past year, China's wearable device market has seen a remarkable 84% increase in sales. According to the "China's Wearables Industry Market Forward-Looking and Investment Strategic Planning Analysis Report," by 2017, China is expected to account for 30% of the global wearable device industry. North America and Europe have maintained steady sales levels, showing consistent growth in this sector.
Wang Sheng, Asia-Pacific Medical and Health Industry Marketing Manager at ADI, highlights that the evolution of wearable technology will go through three distinct phases. Initially, these devices focused on basic sports tracking and vital signs monitoring. In the second phase, they advanced to collect and process more comprehensive data, incorporating both human health metrics and environmental factors. The third stage will see wearables integrate more functions related to the human body and surroundings, becoming key components of artificial intelligence and significantly enhancing users' lifestyles.
Wang further explains that wearables are not just consumer products. Many are used in medical settings or recommended by doctors for home use. As a result, professional medical equipment companies are investing heavily in developing wearable medical devices, while consumer electronics firms are working to make medical equipment more wearable and user-friendly. Currently, smartwatches and fitness bands remain the most popular and mature products in the market, with examples like the Xiaomi Band and Amazfit MiJi leading the way.
Looking ahead, Wang predicts that there will be an increasing variety of preventive wearable devices designed for fitness, sports, and daily life management. These devices will offer more refined VSM (Vital Sign Monitoring) features. Two key trends will drive the industry forward: first, the continuous enhancement of health-related functions, including activity tracking, signal detection, and environmental monitoring; and second, the integration of artificial intelligence, making wearables not just smart devices but also platforms for deep data analysis that address user needs and improve overall experience.
Finally, Wang concludes that ADI, as a leader in healthcare technology, will continue to align with these trends, developing core components and solutions that support the growth of the wearable industry.
