China's software piracy caused 100 billion yuan in losses last year

According to data from the 2010 China Software Piracy Survey released by the Internet Lab, the software piracy rate (including free software) has dropped from 14% in 2009 to 12%, but the piracy rate of paid software is still as high as 41%. At the same time, China’s software industry caused a loss of 100.99 billion yuan. And from the total point of view, the actual number of pirated products is still slightly increasing.

According to the results of the report, according to the calculation of the total installed computer software, the piracy rate in 2010 decreased from 14% in 2009 to 12%; according to the calculation of payable software, the rate of piracy fell from 45% in 2009 to 41%, compared to 2005. A drop of 25 percentage points. The highest rate of piracy is office software, followed by development of language and tool software and platforms, information security, web design, etc. The lower rate of piracy is map information and industry application software.

Internet labs believe that the reasons for the decrease in software piracy rate in 2010 are mainly due to the following five aspects: the enhancement of copyrighted work, the rapid development of domestic software at a low price, the increased promotion of software companies, the spread of free software, and the diversification of sales channels.

It is noteworthy that the same time the release of this data is the United States Business Software Alliance (BSA), the report shows that China's piracy rate is 78%, the software industry caused a loss of only 7.797 billion US dollars.
