The purpose of the limit switch and the situation encountered during use

Industrial limit switches are widely used in a variety of inspection and control applications. The limit switch enables presence/absence detection in areas that allow physical contact. When an object is detected, the switch actuator acts, and the normally open or normally closed electrical contacts in the switch body change state, thereby enabling the AC/DC circuit to be turned on and off.

When installed on heavy construction machinery, agricultural equipment or solid waste treatment vehicles, the function of the limit switch will be tested to the maximum extent possible. These applications produce very strong shocks and vibrations. These machines and equipment typically work in very harsh outdoor and dirty environments throughout the year and are therefore subject to a variety of environmental factors. In these cases, it is very challenging to effectively and efficiently maintain the corresponding performance and function for each action of the limit switch. Reliability, durability and safety are the three most critical factors for limit switch users.

Honeywell offers a wide range of MICRO SWITCH limit switches (both heavy and medium) to suit different industrial applications. These heavy-duty electromechanical products not only provide higher performance for harsh and demanding industrial applications, but also provide a safer working environment for workers.

Considering the impact and vibration generated by these machines, it is very likely that ordinary limit switches will encounter the following conditions:

Switch contact failure

The internal and external mechanical connections of the switch are damaged or loose

The generation of abrasive powders in the internal parts of the switch results in a significant reduction in the life of the switch, even causing associated faults or accidents.

Honeywell's MICRO SWITCH limit switches offer high flexibility in handling high vibrations, shocks and impact forces, and can often be mounted directly onto heavy machinery or in close proximity (large force loads are present at these locations) . These industrial limit switches feature a wide range of NEMA/IP protection to protect against environmental factors such as rain, moisture, hail and liquid splashes. These heavy-duty limit switches are designed to work effectively at low temperatures (cold temperatures) and high temperatures.

Domestic and international common thread

Heavy duty limit switch application

Cement pump truck

Cement pump trucks have long articulated arms or rods that can transport concrete to locations where ordinary cement tankers or pumping machinery are difficult or impossible to reach. The Honeywell HDLS limit switch is used to detect the position of the beam. When the lever is properly seated, the limit switch sends a signal to the operator.

Off-highway dump truck

Off-highway dump trucks are usually equipped with an open compartment or dump truck that is hinged to the rear of the truck. These trucks experience very strong vibrations and shocks during normal operation. In addition, these trucks need to work in extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, dust, corrosive chemicals, rain and wind.

Honeywell's HDLS Series limit switches detect that the tipping or cargo box is fully seated or not on the truck's chassis. This signal is fed back to the control system to provide an indication to the truck operator.

Honeywell's Heavy Duty Limit Switches (HDLS Series) are modular in construction and offer a wide range of actuator types, operating heads and circuit options. The plug-in version has a high speed of operation and can be replaced in a matter of seconds, which can significantly reduce the downtime of the production line. HDLS is ideal for many applications in harsh indoor and/or outdoor environments.

Agricultural equipment

The planter is usually connected to the rear of the farm tractor by a pull roller, thus withstanding the strong vibrations and impacts caused by the tractor and the dry, hard, uneven fields.

Two GLE series industrial limit switches can be used to monitor the position of the planter's tracker arm, and another GLC series of industrial limit switches are used to monitor the on/off status of the pneumatic system. In the process of transporting the seeder from one location to another, it is critical to ensure that the tracker arm is in the idle position and that the pneumatic system is off. These products are certified for CCC, CSA, CE and UL worldwide applications.

Harbour bridge crane

Harbour bridge cranes are very expensive equipment that can be costly to repair or replace if damaged. Moreover, business downtime caused by equipment damage can also result in thousands of dollars in losses. Therefore, it is important to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the various mechanical connections and accessories of the Harbour Bridge crane to ensure efficient and precise operation and control. Another important criterion for customers in the port crane business is the overall reliability of the system and the safety of workers. Honeywell Heavy Duty Limit Switches (HDLS) can be used to detect the position of the crane cab during motion. The GLA series of industrial limit switches can be used to detect the switch status of various doors on the crane and the operating status of the inner track.

CNC machine tool

CNC (CNC) Machine tools are complex machine tool tools that perform pre-programmed tasks that perform tasks that require high precision and accuracy (such as part and component machining).

The Honeywell 914CE series of compact industrial limit switches can be used to detect various mechanical positions within CNC machines. The compact limit switch can be easily installed in a limited space inside the machine to perform the corresponding inspection tasks. This series of limit switches offers a complete range of actuators including flat plungers, roller plungers, side rollers, multi-directional leads and manual operation.

in conclusion

Heavy equipment and machinery in transportation, agriculture, solid waste treatment, construction or industry are subject to extreme conditions and harsh environmental conditions.

We place Honeywell heavy-duty and medium-load limit switches in rigorous vibration and shock testing devices and procedures that are very similar to those in real-life operating conditions. Vibration and shock test conditions are very close to the actual environment.

Each part or structural design of Honeywell's industrial limit switches is naturally more accurate, measurable and durable to improve performance output and endurance. Honeywell's sensing and control solutions are also very flexible and can be tailored to specific specifications – such as providing greater performance and longer life to reduce cost and operating costs.
