Baidu has officially announced the launch of its first intelligent video speaker, called "Xiaodu at Home," with a release date set for March 26. The product is expected to make a big splash in the smart home market.
At the CES 2018 event in January, Jing Duo, General Manager of Baidu's Specialized Department, and Song Yufeng, CEO of Xiaoyu, introduced a screen-equipped smart speaker during Baidu World 2018 in the U.S. This marks the beginning of a new collaboration between Baidu and Xiaoyu.
If all goes smoothly, this upcoming release will be the first joint product from both companies in the smart speaker category. On March 26, Baidu will also host a press conference to officially unveil "Xiaodu at Home."
Interestingly, Baidu and Xiaoyu had already launched a smart speaker with a screen back in early 2017—six months ahead of Amazon’s Echo Show. Rumors suggest that Alibaba and Xiaomi are also working on similar products.
Smart speakers with screens offer more functionality than their non-screen counterparts. They can support video calls, display videos, and provide access to vast amounts of information. For everyday users, entertainment and ease of use are key factors when choosing such devices.
