Baidu has officially announced the launch of its first intelligent video speaker, named "Xiaodu Home," with a release date set for March 26. A visual representation of the device is shown below:
This announcement comes just months after Baidu and Xiaoyu introduced a smart speaker with a screen at Baidu World 2018 in the U.S., during which Jing Duo, General Manager of Baidu's Specialized Department, and Song Yufeng, CEO of Xiaoyu, showcased their latest innovation. If everything goes as planned, this new product will mark the first joint effort between Baidu and Xiaoyu in developing an intelligent video speaker.
In addition to the product launch, Baidu is also scheduled to hold a press conference on March 26 to officially unveil "Xiaodu Home." The collaboration between the two companies has been ongoing since early 2017 when they jointly launched a smart speaker with a screen, beating Amazon’s Echo Show by six months.
The introduction of a screen into smart speakers opens up more possibilities for user interaction. These devices can support video calls, stream videos, and deliver rich content, making them more versatile than traditional voice-activated speakers.
