Exar recently announced a non-synchronous constant on-time buck controller for the 5 Amps load, the XRP6124. As the latest addition to the Exar step-down controller family, the XRP6124 is available in two versions: 18V and 30V for 12V and 24V input applications.

The XRP6124, an unsynchronized 500ns constant on-time controller, achieves up to 92% efficiency in a compact package, operates at quasi-constant switching frequencies up to 1MHz, and supports up to 30V input voltage and low Adjustable output voltage up to 1.2V. Its proprietary control structure provides extremely fast linearity regulation and load transient response without external compensation circuitry and allows the use of cost-effective ceramic capacitors. The XRP6124's power supply design flexibility has been further enhanced through its precision-enable function and built-in soft-start. At the same time, output short-circuit protection also provides fail-safe operation for the XRP6124.
