Volvo launched pure electric bus 7900, battery life 200 km

The depletion of natural resources has become one of the most pressing challenges facing our planet today. As awareness about environmental sustainability grows, so does the demand for energy-efficient solutions. This shift in mindset has significantly accelerated the development of new energy vehicles, and electric buses are now at the forefront of this transformation. Volvo Buses, a leader in sustainable transportation, has introduced a groundbreaking model: the Volvo 7900, a fully electric bus designed to meet modern urban mobility needs. The Volvo 7900 is equipped with a larger battery pack, offering three different capacity options: 150 kWh, 200 kWh, and 250 kWh. These upgrades allow the bus to travel up to 200 kilometers (124 miles) on a single charge, even in heavy traffic conditions. This level of performance makes it ideal for city routes where frequent stops and starts are common. The vehicle supports two charging methods: OppCharge, which allows roof-top charging, and CCS (Combined Charging System), providing flexibility for different infrastructure setups. Volvo announced the launch of the new 7900 model at the International Bus Show in Kortrijk, Belgium, from October 20th to 25th, 2018. The first deliveries were expected by the end of that year. The improved battery capacity not only extends the range but also enhances operational efficiency, allowing the bus to run longer without needing to recharge. This is especially beneficial for daily operations, as it reduces downtime and increases overall productivity. In addition to its extended range, the Volvo 7900 offers quiet and emission-free operation, making it an environmentally friendly choice for urban environments. It consumes 80% less energy compared to traditional diesel buses, further reducing the carbon footprint. The bus features a low-floor design, making it accessible for all passengers, including those with mobility challenges. Another key feature of the 7900 is its advanced safety systems, including Volvo’s VDS (Vehicle Dynamics System) and pedestrian and cyclist detection technologies. These innovations ensure safer travel for both drivers and pedestrians. The vehicle can be charged using either OppCharge or CCS, though the 250 kWh version is only compatible with CCS. Volvo Bus President Håkan Agnevall emphasized the importance of the 7900 in their electric vehicle lineup, stating that it provides customers with maximum flexibility. During peak hours, the bus can operate continuously while maintaining a charge. In off-peak times, it can recharge efficiently. For shorter routes, the bus can run during the day and charge overnight, optimizing energy use. Overall, the Volvo 7900 represents a significant step forward in sustainable public transportation. With its impressive range, efficient charging options, and commitment to safety and environmental responsibility, it sets a new standard for electric buses in urban settings.
