Volvo launched pure electric bus 7900, battery life 200 km

The depletion of natural resources has become one of the most pressing global challenges. As environmental awareness grows, there's a stronger emphasis on energy conservation and sustainable practices. This shift has significantly boosted the development of new energy vehicles, including electric buses. One notable example is Volvo, which has recently introduced the all-electric Volvo 7900 bus, designed to meet modern urban transportation needs while reducing environmental impact. The new Volvo 7900 is equipped with a larger battery pack, offering three different capacity options: 150 kWh, 200 kWh, and 250 kWh. These improvements allow the bus to travel up to 200 kilometers (124 miles) on a single charge, even in heavy traffic conditions. The vehicle supports two charging methods: OppCharge (roof charging) and CCS (Combined Charging System), making it more versatile for different charging infrastructures. The first deliveries of the Volvo 7900 are expected by the end of 2018. Compared to earlier models, the battery capacity has seen a significant upgrade, allowing for longer operational hours and greater efficiency throughout the day. Volvo has also expanded its charging options, ensuring that the bus can be quickly recharged using the open and neutral OppCharge interface, as well as the CCS system—though the 250 kWh version is only compatible with CCS. The new model made its debut at the International Bus Show in Kortrijk, Belgium, from October 20th to 25th. It will be sold as a complete turnkey solution, with Volvo taking responsibility for the monthly maintenance of both the vehicle and its battery. This approach ensures reliability and reduces the burden on customers. Key features of the Volvo 7900 include: - A pure electric drive system - Dual-axis, 12-meter city bus design with a low chassis and three-door layout - Quiet operation and zero tailpipe emissions - Energy consumption that is 80% lower than traditional diesel buses - Battery options of 150, 200, or 250 kWh - Compatibility with OppCharge and CCS charging systems (with 250 kWh only supported by CCS) - Range of up to 200 km depending on terrain and driving conditions - Advanced safety features such as Volvo’s VDS steering system and alerts for pedestrians and cyclists Volvo Bus President Håkan Agnevall stated, “The Volvo 7900 is a crucial part of our electric vehicle lineup, giving our customers maximum flexibility in their daily operations. During peak hours, it can run continuously and maintain a charge. When traffic is lighter, the battery can continue to charge. On shorter routes, the bus can operate during the day and recharge overnight.”
