Texas Instruments acquires National Semiconductor Corporation for $6.5 billion

[High-tech LED News] Recently, Texas Instruments completed a $6.5 billion acquisition of the former rival National Semiconductor Corporation.

Texas Instruments said that National Semiconductor has become a strategic component to drive the growth of Texas Instruments' analog business. The merger will focus on accelerating semiconductor business innovation and improving the performance and power efficiency of customer electronic systems. Texas Instruments will serve more customers in a wider market.

The acquisition was announced on April 4, 2011 and has now passed all necessary regulatory review and approval by National Semiconductor shareholders. Texas Instruments will report on the contribution of the National Semiconductor business to the company's finances in its third quarter earnings report, released on October 24, 2011.
