Apple is moving! iPhone may have to support brush face unlock!

According to the Israeli weekly report, Apple has just acquired Realface, an Israeli facial recognition startup, for millions of dollars. Founded in 2014 by Adi Eckhouse Barzilai and Aviv Mader, the company's main technology is to help users unlock their devices and apps through faces.

Apple is moving! iPhone may have to support brush face unlock!

There have been rumors that Apple will launch a 10th anniversary of the iPhone with a full-screen design this year. In order to increase the screen ratio, this new iPhone will not be equipped with a Home button but with a touch bar instead. So Apple needs a new way to unlock the Touch ID fingerprint that was originally integrated into the Home button. Some analysts have pointed out that Apple is sourcing a laser sensor for 3D scanning that enables the device to better identify objects, further confirming the credibility of this rumor.

Before the acquisition of RealFace, Apple had integrated face recognition in the camera, so it is widely believed that Apple's acquisition is for security rather than for taking pictures.

At the same time, face unlocking can also be a good complement to fingerprint unlocking. The iPhone 7 series released by Apple last year supports the waterproof body for the first time, but when the user's finger is wet, it can't be unlocked smoothly. Face recognition unlocking is better than Touch ID and screen password in this case.

But considering the rumors that Apple will release the iPhone in the first half of this year, the acquisition has just happened. Apple may not have time to apply RealFace's technology to the latest iPhone. Therefore, RealFace-based facial recognition unlocking may be pushed in subsequent iOS updates.
