The Pearl River Delta will become a world-class LED lighting industry cluster

Recently, at the provincial LED lighting industry development work conference held by the Guangdong Provincial Government, the “timetable” for building the international-level LED lighting industry belt in the Pearl River Delta region has become increasingly clear. The provincial government requires the municipalities to establish a “contact conference system” to promote the implementation of this plan.

At present, the Pearl River Delta region is one of the most active and fastest regions for the development of semiconductor lighting industry in mainland China. In terms of regional distribution, the LED lighting industry in Guangdong has formed a pattern with Shenzhen as the leader, Guangzhou and Shenzhen as the main axes, and the industrial chain extending to both sides of the axis. Guangdong is not only the largest application market for LED lighting industry in mainland China, but also the most important production base. The output of LED packaging accounts for about 70% of the country's total, accounting for nearly half of the world. Take the Shenzhen LED industry as an example. In 2008, the LED industry in Shenzhen was about 18 billion yuan. In addition to Shenzhen, Zhongshan, Foshan, Huizhou, Guangzhou, Jiangmen and Dongguan have also accelerated the development and layout of this industry.

According to the relevant person in charge of the Information Industry Department of Guangdong Province, the output value of LED lighting and related industries in Guangdong Province reached 31 billion yuan in 2008. Even in the international financial crisis, the LED lighting industry in Guangdong is still rising against the trend, with a growth rate of over 25%. At present, there are more than 2,600 LED lighting enterprises in the province, and a number of leading enterprises such as Shenzhen Fangda Group, Century Jingyuan, Dongguan Qinshang Optoelectronics, Foshan Guoxing Optoelectronics and Heshan Lide Electronics have emerged. Yang Xue, director of the Industrial Management Department of the Information Industry Department of Guangdong Province, said that the LED industry in the Pearl River Delta region has a good industrial foundation. Many companies have originally been engaged in lighting applications. Therefore, they can make a “transformation” of the industry one step ahead.

“Although the scale is ahead of China, there is still room for improvement in independent innovation.” Li Yaozhen of the Guangzhou Institute of Electronics Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences pointed out that the current LED industry in Guangdong is mainly concentrated in the downstream field, and the intervention in the middle and upper reaches is not deep. “In material extension, chip manufacturing The upstream links still rely on imports from abroad." Li Yaoxuan said that in the face of this "bottleneck problem", the government and enterprises need to work together to break through, and the government can take the lead to establish an LED technology service platform and give technical guidance to enterprises. It is reported that Shenzhen and Dongguan have already carried out cooperation in production, education and research, and at the same time strengthened the planning and layout of the industry and promoted the development of the LED lighting industry.

In March 2009, Shenzhen City issued the “Shenzhen LED Industry Development Plan” to encourage investment in lighting projects to tilt toward LED Products. The maximum subsidy for a single project can reach 10 million yuan. In addition to Shenzhen, other cities and municipalities have also used policy influences and financial means to speed up the "implementation" and "layout" of the LED industry. According to estimates, in 2015, the LED lighting industry market in Guangdong Province will exceed 80 billion yuan, and the Pearl River Delta region will become a world-class LED lighting industry cluster.
