Freescale expands its 32-bit ColdFire MCU portfolio

Freescale expands its 32-bit ColdFire MCU portfolio Freescale expands its 32-bit ColdFire MCU portfolio to meet the most stringent performance requirements for home appliances and industrial applications. The new MCF51AG128 MCU series offers the best performance and features to enhance the system safety and integrity of applications, including washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators, microwave ovens, air conditioners, industrial drive systems/pumps, fans/compressors.

With a supply voltage of 2.7V–5.5V, the AG128 MCU operates at processor core speeds up to 50 MHz and includes 128 KB of Flash memory and 16 KB of SRAM. Multiple package options, plus new GPIO enhancements, will allow maximum flexibility in layout and production.

This peripheral set is designed for effective control of three-phase motor control applications. It includes two 16-bit FlexTimers, a high-speed analog comparator, dual 16-bit PWM timers, a programmable delay block, and a 24-channel 12-bit ADC with PWM hardware triggering. In addition, it also includes functions that are important for system security and integrity, such as advanced independent clock COP, external watchdog monitoring, and cyclic redundancy check (CRC) engine to provide CLK for applications covered by IEC 60730 regulations. Fault protection and memory content verification.

The unique IP enables AG128 products to achieve system performance optimization and flexibility through DMA and iEvent modules to complete data transactions and interrupt management, thereby alleviating CPU overhead and improving overall performance.

STefano Frattesi, Indesit’s R&D Electronics Division Manager, said, “The MCF51AG128 32-bit MCUs provide an ideal feature set to enable Indesit to accelerate the implementation of innovative control solutions for the next generation of smart home appliances.”

Comprehensive Development Support Freescale offers a complete software and hardware toolset to help simplify development and accelerate time-to-market. These include:

1.TWR-MCF51AG Tower system, which allows customers to quickly develop and provide out-of-the-box applications;

2. CodeWarrior Development Studio for microcontroller V6.3;

3. MQX software solution ported to AG128, providing priority drivers in the BSP, supporting DMA, iEvent, and DMA enabled peripherals;

4. Three-phase sensorless BLDC motor control demonstration using a comparator 5. Touch sensing software and eGUI providing advanced human-machine interface capabilities Availability and Pricing The MCF51AG128 MCU is available now, with a suggested retail price of $2.91.

IDC D-Sub Connectors

IDC (insulation displacement contact) D-sub connectors are a type of electrical connectorthat's designed to be connected to the conductor(s) of an insulated cable, most commonly a ribbon cable(a cable with many conducting wires running parallel to each other on the same flat plane).

Applications for IDC D-sub connectors

IDC D-sub connectors, attached to ribbon cables, are helpful in situations where you need to make a lot of connections without a big number of wires. They're commonly used in computer and electronic systems that require multiple data buses to link internal peripherals, such as disk drives to their drive controllers. They're also frequently used in industrial and telecom applications.

How does an IDC D-sub connector work?

With an IDC D-sub connector, there's no need for cable preparation – in other words, you don't need the strip the cables of their insulation before connecting. To connect the cable to the connector, there are sharpened blades (or contacts) on the connector that force through the insulation around the cable, making a secure connection.
